Leave No Trace Plan

As vet Burners, we make a commitment to pledge and act on LNT philosophy. Each year, we review the Earth Guardians LNT plan with every individual camping with us, identify ways to improve our LNT plan both as a camp and individually, then create practical ways in which to regularly enact the LNT plan, before, during and after the event.

SPC - population 45, mostly of BM vets attending since 1998. Our camps have been different each year so instead of a camp history, we have a common history of giving: our time, our brains, our braun, our creativity, our hugs.

This year: Aside from our vehicles/tents, we plan to build a 20'x20' fully contained corral (with a 20'x20' shade structure next to it = approx. 40'x20' total frontage) using only rebar where necessary. No structure is higher than 12-15' tall. The corral will be built, decorated with playa proof materials (we wind test everything!) and test assembled and dissassembled at home so that construction and deconstruction creates minimal wear on the playa.

Daily, from 9am-6pm we intake sparkle ponies of all kinds. Because we are aware of a Sparkle Pony's usual inability to keep their sh*t together, we will have regularly scheduled MOOPer SCOOPers clean the corral and communal areas of our camp and neighboring areas. These MS's will bring issues/problems as they arise and take quick and immediate action to ensure chronic and accute LNT infractions are resolved.

Also, everyone will have additional trash containers on them at all times, both in and out of camp, so they may catch trash as they find it. Each of our burners regularly spend several hours throughout the week and on Sunday/Monday sweeping heavily trafficked playa areas and help neighbors maintain their LNT commitments. Our camp will use reusable plates, utensils, cups and storage devices to create minimal trash.

Our LNT leadership will include a team of 4 and will be designated once final arrival and departure times have been selected. Each leader will coordinate regular sweeps of our camp's communal and private areas, the street frontage we live on, and our neighboring areas.

We will be building the wind powered evapotron to remove our shower gray water efficiently -for those who choose to shower while there. Several of us have chosen to be most environmental and skipping showering on the playa entirely!')

As a camp we will:

We hereby designate Svetlana as the Ambassador to the Black Rock Desert and leader of our Leave No Trace Team. The team will help plan our purchases, what we bring to the playa, and encourage us to reuse, recycle, reduce and restore our materials. They will think about how we and all of our stuff will get to the playa and make it home again. The team will keep our camp clean and fun before, during and after the event and delegate and enlist help when it is needed. They will be responsible for cleanup and trash management in our camp, including activities and parties we host.

They will see that our gray water does not impact the playa. They will make sure that all camp members understand and agree with the policies and practices of Leave No Trace at Burning Man. They will oversee daily tasks and will have a plan in place when we get ready to leave, when it's time to break down and sweep our camp for every last trace. The Abassador will make sure EVERYTHING left goes with us. The Ambassador will encourage our participation in community line sweeps and restoration with our neighbors and DPW. Svetlana and her crew, will oversee our camp breakdown and cleanup.
